From Ottawa, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, in remarks to reporters, called today a “difficult day” for the community of Tumbleweed and the entire country, following the bloody incident at the area high school.
“Parents and grandparents, sisters and brothers in Tumblr Ridge will wake up without someone they love,” Carney said. “The country stands with you. Canada stands with you.”
The Canadian prime minister thanked the emergency services for their immediate mobilization, as well as international leaders who contacted him expressing solidarity.
He then announced that he had ordered flags at all government buildings to fly at half-mast for the next week.
“We will get through this,” he added. “But right now, it’s time to unite, as Canadians do in such tragic circumstances. To support each other, to grieve together and to move forward together.”
It was noted that 9 people died and 25 others were injured during bloody incidents at a high school and a local home.
Authorities believe the two incidents are linked, and the focus has been on identifying the gunman, who was also found dead, possibly shot himself.
