A two-day festival titled “Saint Valentine of Mytilene 2016” is to take place on Lesbos during Valentine’s Day. Apart from being one of the most romantic waterfront settings of Greece, Lesbos feels a particular bond with Saint Valentine as the holy relics of the saint have been at the island since 1907.
* The Municipality of Lesbos is inviting couples interested in getting married to attend a group Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony.
* A marriage competition with a gold, silver and bronze prize is to take place. The prize includes free air fares, accommodation, food and tours around the island. (6 p.m. Feb 14)
* Religious festivities to honor the relics of Saint Valentine have been organized at 11 a.m. on Sunday, February 14, at the Holy Church of Theotokos (Frangokklisia)
* Cultural events include a “love concert” with latin, tango, waltz etc.
* Traditional food festival.
* Greece’s songster George Dalaras will sing at the Municipal Theater of Mytilene in a concert with free admission for newlyweds.
Those interested in taking part in the group wedding or competing for the marriage prize should get in touch with the Municipality of Lesbons by February 10, 2016.
