South Africa: Pastor uses insecticide to ‘heal’ congregants

Bugging South Africans

Newsroom November 25 06:52

Social media is abuzz with images of a South African pastor who sprays pesticide in the faces of his congregants to cure them.
Pastor Lethebo Rabalago, of the Mount Zion General Assembly in Limpopo recently posted images on his Facebook page that showed him spraying the faces of willing congregants with Doom Super Multi Insect Killer in order to cure their various ailments.
A photo posted on Saturday was captioned with the alleged quote of a congregant, saying: “I came here with a pain on my back and stomach. Now, after the prophet sprayed me with Doom, I am healed … I thank God for healing me.”
Though Rabalago declined to speak to the press about his unorthodox ‘healing’ methods, in an interview on South African TV channel eNCA, he said that God had told him to use the bug spray Doom, and that it enabled him to heal countless people.
Meanwhile, Doom insecticide manufacturer Tiger Brands strongly condemned the pastor’s actions in a press release, calling them “alarming and extremely concerning,” and also added that it is “unsafe to spray Doom Super Multi Insect killer or any other aerosol spray for that matter, into people’s faces.”  The manufacturer also advised that anyone sprayed in the face with insecticide should wash their face and/or eyes immediately, avoiding excessive inhalation.
South Africans were very bugged by the unethical and dangerous practices of the pastor, and took to social media to express their disbelief, outrage and concern.
