Tourist arrivals in Zakynthos were increased by 20% in the first half of the year, according to airport data released recently by the president of Laganas Hotel Association, Christina Tetradi.

In the first six months of the year, 182,210 visitors arrived at the island, 29,596 more tourists compared with the same period in 2013.

During June, Zakynthos welcomed 18,868 more foreign visitors than last year.

During January-June period, arrivals from the United Kingdom to Zakynthos increased by 14.61%, from the Netherlands 48.25%, Austria 16.24%,Switzerland 13.08% and Belgium 10.73%.

However, arrivals from Germany and Russia during the first six months of the year showed a drop at 3.42% and 8.55% respectively, whereas an increase of tourists was shown from Belarus at 204.68%.

The number of foreign tourists coming from Romania, Hungary and Poland also increased significantly by 114.48%, 80.48% and 45.24%, respectively.

Regarding visitors from the Balkan countries, there was a 146.62% increase from Bulgaria and a 31.64% increase from Serbia.
