SYRIZA’s 2nd year in power: Social media users troll government (tweets)

Greeks use humour and irony to "celebrate" 2nd year of SYRIZA in office

Newsroom January 25 08:47

Greek citizens took to social media to troll the anniversary of SYRIZA’s second year in power on January 25. Greeks expressed their disappointment over SYRIZA’s and PM Alexis Tsipras’s broken promises over the course of the two last years. Apart from the original sarcastic tweets about the second year of SYRIZA in power, with reminders of broken promises like the overturn of the NO vote in last year’s referendum to a YES and the capitulation to the creditors, or the signing of a 3rd memorandum, some posts stand out as they use whole excerpts from Mr. Tsipras’s speech a year ago, when celebrations were held at a event full of fanfare titled “A year with the Left in Power, A Year of Battles, Moving Forward” to contrast it with the reality of today. Some of the tweets include the replacement of the SYRIZA logo with Euro bills, while anther plays on the word “close” and birthday referring to closed shops and houses after two years of the leftists party in power. Another simply lists out the VAT hikes, the refugee crisis and tax increases. A quick reminder of Mr. Tsipras’s speech a year ago:
