The Telegraph: A holiday reading guide for visitors to Greece

An editor of The Daily Telegraph compiled a list of recommended books for holiday reading, ideal for those who plan to visit Greece.

Newsroom July 20 11:20

Michael Kerr, deputy travel editor of The Daily Telegraph, compiled a list of recommended books for holiday reading, ideal for those who plan to visit Greece.

The list was published on The Telegraph site and it includes his favorite readings as well as suggestions of others. Among the recommended books we can find popular choices and also some less known titles from several literary genres.

These are some of the books Michael Kerr recommends:

A Concise History of Greece by Richard Clogg (Cambridge University Press)

Sofka Zinovieff’s debut novel, The House on Paradise Street (Short Books), a “gripping exploration of the effects of the 1946-49 civil war and its aftermath in contemporary Greece and also a good family drama”.

The Flight of Ikaros by Kevin Andrews (Paul Dry Books), “one of the great and lasting books about Greece” according to Patrick Leigh Fermor.

Christopher Logue’s War Music (Faber and Faber).

The Colossus of Maroussi, “Henry Miller’s enthusiastic portrait of Corfu, Crete, Athens and their unforgettable characters”.

Sofka Zinovieff’s Eurydice Street: A Place in Athens (Granta)

Louis de Bernières’s Captain Corelli’s Mandolin.
