“Just the kind of island where romance flourishes, with its characteristic cube architecture, often topped with perfect domes that remains true to the Greek colours of blue and white”.
This is how the British ‘101 honeymoons’ website describes Santorini, ranking the beautiful island second in the list of the best luxury honeymoon destinations.
However, Santorini is also “just the kind of island” to have your wedding ceremony on. This year, dozens of foreign couples decided to exchange their wedding vows on the Cycladic island, with its beautiful landscapes as a background.
Santorini is not the only popular destination for a ‘greek style wedding’. The list includes famous romantic destinations and also less obvious choices, such as Monemvasia, Skiathos (especially after the blockbuster ‘Mamma Mia’ that was filmed there), Symi, Crete, Paros, Milos, Kos, Mykonos and of course Athens!
There are no official data available regarding these weddings. However, according to estimates, last year 1,100 weddings were performed on romantic Santorini. Most of the weddings were of Chinese couples, and also of British, Americans, Russians, and Indians.
