The Greek islands are winning fans worldwide for their amazing landscapes, their ideal climate and vibrant nightlife. Santorini, in particular, has won several accolades this year, the most recent one being the first place in a list entitled “World’s Best Islands” that was published by American ‘Travel and Leisure’ magazine.

The top ten islands include exotic destinations with turquoise waters and sandy beaches but the Greek landscape, with its whitewashed houses against the charming backdrop of the deep blue Aegean sea, conquers deservedly the first place.

“With its white villages atop lava rock cliffs and blue-domed churches overlooking a sunken caldera, this postcard-perfect Aegean island feels a thousand miles from modern civilization,” says Travel and Leisure magazine about Santorini. Thanks to its world-famous sunset, Santorini is also among the top romantic destinations for Americans.

Santorini is the only European island among the top ten. The list also includes Maui, Kauai Hawaii and other destinations that usually make the top ten list of the prestigious magazine.
