Turkish Foreign Minister Cavusoglu threatens Cyprus anew over oil drilling

The US State Department called on Turkey to refrain from using inflammatory rhetoric

Newsroom November 14 05:41

Turkey’s Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, launched new threats against Cyprus and Greece in statements he made regarding the Eastern Mediterranean and drilling within the Cypriot Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). “We are taking all the necessary measures to protect our interests in the maritime region of Cyprus,” said Cavusoglu. “We want no-one to enter into any adventures,” the Turkish Minister continued.

Yesterday, the US State Department sent a clear message to Ankara to refrain from adopting provocative rhetoric, discouraging actions that could further escalate tensions in relations between Turkey and Cyprus. The US Department of State made Washington’s stance clear and unequivocal: the United States recognises the right of the Republic of Cyprus to conduct investigations within its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
The US Foreign Ministry’s “response” comes on the heels of the latest provocative statements by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who also “launched” a series of new threats against Greece and Cyprus on the Eastern Mediterranean.
