The 16th Thessaloniki International Book Fair opens

The 16th Thessaloniki International Book Fair takes place from May 9-12 at HELEXPO

Newsroom May 9 01:07

The 16th Thessaloniki International Book Fair which takes place from May 9-12 at HELEXPO, features a rich program that aims at encouraging reading with events that focus on crucial issues of contemporary socio-political life, open up interesting dialogues, ask important questions, explore topical issues and illuminate obscure aspects of current events and circumstances.

In this framework, the exhibition titled “The Crowd as a Protagonist in Literature and History” will be its focal point, focuses on a number of key sub-axes that attempt to mark the contribution, role or simple presence of large groups in the shaping of the circumstances.

At the same time, a newly established section titled “Imagine all the people: a tribute to the refugee experience” deals with one of the greatest crises in modern history: the movement and flow of a large part of the population as imposed by independent situations of individual will.

On Sunday in Malgara, farmers decide on next steps – Which points are open and where blockades remain ahead of New Year

Similar to these two themes, the 16th Thessaloniki International Book Fair presents an exhibition featuring the photos of the great Reuters and Pulitzer winner photojournalist Yannis Behrakis (1960-2019), who depicted, via his lens, the refugee crisis from the viewpoint of solidarity.

This year, the Fair honors the Spanish-speaking countries, that have an enormous literary wealth and common points of reference with Greece. The Hellenic Foundation for Culture, in collaboration with the Iberoamerican Literature Festival in Athens-LEA, with embassies, institutes and other cultural institutions inside and outside Greece, will honor literature coming from both Spain and Spanish-speaking Latin American countries.
