In just 11 hours 22,000 tourists arrived on Friday at “Nikos Kazantzakis” airport of Heraklion.

According to the chief of the airport of Heraklion, George Pliaka , dozens of flights are scheduled during the weekend, so the total number of tourists expected to arrive from Friday until Sunday will exceed 55,000.

Most charters concern flights from Germany, whereas Russia, UK, France and Holland follow in tourist arrivals.

Another record was achieved in April, too

Last April 109,960 tourists arrived at the “Nikos Kazantzakis” airport compared to 76,807 last year’s April. So, tourist arrivals have increased by 43.16% comparing to last year.

Based on the data of May, slots show an increase of 30% compared to last year.

Also, the number of tourists arrived from Germany in April was increased by 70% compared to April 2013, since 40,000 German tourists arrived at Heraklion airport on the first days of the tourist season.

The tourist flow from France increased by 30 % and 50% from UK. Arrivals from Russia are the same as last year.
