Albania: Katsifas…”committed suicide” – They are filing the case!

The court accepted the proposal of the chief prosecutor of Argyrokastro who has since been involved in a case of abuse of power & corruption!

Newsroom December 20 01:18

Finally, the Albanian authorities…”suicided” the 35-year-old expatriate Konstantinos Katsifas, despite the previous objections of the Argyrokastro Court of First Instance. According to leaks to the Albanian media on 13/12/2021, the court and its president, Suela Dasi, accepted the proposal of the chief prosecutor of Argyrokastro, who has since been involved in a case of abuse of power and corruption, attributing the murder of the member of the indigenous Greek minority of Northern Epirus at the south of Albania to suicide, with…two bullets in his heart!

This development raises serious questions since the previous proposal of this prosecutor, was returned by the president of the court, with a further investigation as there was not enough evidence to attribute Katsifa’s death to suicide.

The additional information that emerged in order to accept the prosecutor’s suggestion remain unclear. The prosecutor’s report, as it is known until today, is not coherent and in many places it is controversial and contradictory. He bases the “suicide” claim of Katsifas on forensic examinations that took place in Argyrokastro and Tirana and with medical examiners who were not found and do not have a picture of the place of his death, as they should be according to standard procedures and world-wide accepted good practices.

According to Albanian media, “the forensic examination number 597/1 that was carried out concluded that Katsifas committed suicide”.

However, it is reported that for the decision on Katsifa’s suicide, the formal admission of the Albanian police special forces unit RENEA about his execution by its men who participated in the operation on 28.10.2021 in Vouliarates, Northern Epirus, was not taken into account!

The provocative decision of the Argyrokastro Court of First Instance, which despite its initial position adopted in the end the proposal of a prosecutor, raises serious questions both in terms of how the evidence were examined and in terms of how Justice and rule of law work in Albania.

Officially, the family of the 35-year-old Greek has not yet been informed about the decision of the Argyrokastro Court of First Instance. However, according to information, the exception of RENEA’s formal admission of Katsifa’s assassination during the operation, paves the way for appeal in European courts.
