Long traffic jam on Attiki Odos due to the heavy snowfall (photos)

The Fire Brigade is trying to clear the road from snow

Newsroom January 24 03:45

A traffic jam extending for kilometres has been reported on Attiki Odos motorway at the exit of Pallini due to the heavy snowfall. According to motorists moving in the direction from Pallini to Athens, the situation is desperate and hundreds of cars are at a standstill.

Meabwhile, the Fire Brigade has requested the Traffic Police to reduce the flow of vehicles at the entrance to Attiki Odos in order to facilitate their efforts to free the stuck vehicles and clear the snow from the road.

According to a report by OPEN TV, the Fire Brigade warned that the calls to its emergency call centre will increase in the coming hours and it will need to offer assistance on several fronts, as a further deterioration of the weather is expected in the coming hours.

The tolls of Attiki Odos were opened to facilitate drivers’ movement, however, the continuous snowfall is causing major traffic problems as can be seen in the photos.

According to information from Attiki Odos, in some parts of the motorway, especially in the link of the Vrilissia tunnel with the Ymittos Ring Road and in the area of Gerakas downstream to Elefsina , severe traffic problems were created due to vehicles that were immobilised due to mechanical failure resulting in long jams.
