Political “earthquake” in France: Macron loses majority in Parliament, Le Pen soars

Marine Le Pen "National Rally" increased the number of its deputies fivefold taking from 80 to 100 seats

Newsroom June 20 09:43

France is sailing in uncharted waters in the last hours, as the final results of the parliamentary elections marked the end of the absolute majority for the “Together” party of the President, Emanuel Macron in the National Assembly.

Almost two months after his re-election to the presidency, the current President of France saw his party forces retreat, in an unexpected result worse than even the most pessimistic predictions of his party.

The internal security issues with the high numbers of illegal immigrants, the high cost of living in France, the inflation, have resulted in this result for the French President, who is entering one of the most difficult phases of his rule, henceforth.

Emmanuel Macron party is taking in today’s second round of parliamentary elections in France from 210 to 250 seats and Jean-Luc Melanson’s left-wing political party takes 150 to 180 seats and the Republicans take 60 to 70 seats.

But for Marine Le Pen, the success is undeniable and a huge surprise for everyone else. It has increased the number of its deputies fivefold and takes from 80 to 100 seats, well above the limit of 15 deputies in order to form a parliamentary group, for the second time in the history of her party, after 1986.

The right-wing leader Marin Le Pen, said tonight that she would seek to unite all the “patriots” not only from the right but also from the left, after the unexpected increase of her party’s power in the parliamentary elections.

“The people decided to send a strong parliamentary group of the ‘National Rally’ to the National Assembly. We have achieved our goals: to make Emanuel Macron president of the minority, without control of power”, she said.

Le Pen promised that her party would be a “tough” opposition but at the same time “responsible” and would respect the institutions.
