The world’s most liveable cities – Where is Athens?

Austria is the best city to live in

Newsroom June 23 03:04

The capital of Austria, Vienna, has again been voted the best city in the world to live in, according to the annual report of the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) published Thursday.

The Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, is not included this year due to the effects of the Russian invasion of the country on February 24, while the Russian cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg fell 15 and 13 places respectively in the ranking.

Vienna took first place in the ranking from Auckland, New Zealand, which dropped to 34th place due to restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to the report.

“Vienna, which had dropped to 12th place in our ranking at the beginning of 2021 as its museums and restaurants were closed, was again in the first place, which it held in 2018 and 2019,” the report said. “Stability and good infrastructure are the main attractions of the city for its inhabitants, supported by the remarkable health system and the abundance of cultural and entertainment opportunities,” the report stressed.

Europe has the top six spots in the rankings. The Austrian capital is followed in second place by the Danish capital, Copenhagen, and the Swiss city of Zurich. The capital of Greece, Athens made a jump in the rankings climbing to No. 73.

Also, Swiss Geneva is in sixth place, Frankfurt in Germany in seventh and Dutch Amsterdam in ninth.

Canada performed well with three cities at the top of the rankings: Calgary is in third place, Vancouver is in fifth and Toronto is in the eighth.

The tenth place is shared by Osaka, Japan, and Melbourne, Australia.
