The increase in arrivals at Eleftherios Venizelos Airport is striking, reaching +28% with passengers both domestic and foreign marking increases of +29% and +27% respectively.
An important element is the increase of 16% achieved by Greek travelers, while foreign visitors landing exclusively in Athens, rose by an impressive 44%.
These high rates are recorded following the reversal of the downward trend of traffic which had been observed since the second half of last year, with a return to positive figures since the start of 2014, due to a number of factors such as economic recovery, boosting the attractiveness of Athens as a destination for foreigners, enhancing the supply of flights and sets from a large number of airlines, and last but not least, the simultaneous celebration of the Orthodox and Catholic Easter.
Overall, between January and April 2014, there was a significant increase of 14.3%, with airport passengers reaching 3.6 million, surpassing corresponding 2013 levels by almost half a million. Movement from abroad should a double-digit growth of 17.7%, while domestic traffic also rose by 8.6%.
