The 25 most popular entries for 2022 in Greek Wikipedia – Ukraine, Greece, Elizabeth in the top 3

Agios Paisios and the 2022 World Cup in the top 10 entries

Newsroom January 17 10:13

In 2022, for another year, the readability of the Greek version of the online encyclopedia Wikipedia marked an upward trend. Last year the entry with the most visits was about the war in Ukraine, which even exceeded 700,000 views, which is an all-time record.

In second place was the entry for Greece, which has a consistently high readership, while in third place was the entry for Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, which always had many visits but these jumped after her death on September 8. Other current affairs items that saw a spike in their readability were about NATO (#4), European Union (#8), Russia (#11), Vladimir Putin (#16), and Volodymyr Zelensky (#19).

The entries FIFA World Cup (#5) and FIFA World Cup 2022 (#6) had high and steady traffic from November until mid-December during the games in Qatar. The entry ‘ Agios Paisios’ at position #7 had a high readership during the TV series about his life, with a weekly increase each time a new episode aired. Likewise, for the entries, George Papandreou (#9) and Kyveli (actor) (#14), for whose relationship there was also a TV series and the readability of the entries increased each time a new episode was aired.

The surge in traffic at the entry for the vice-president of the European Parliament Eva Kaili (#10) is due to her arrest, while the rise of entry to Line 3 (Athens Metro) (#15) is related to the extension of the line in October.
