Greek authorities are on high alert in the areas that are affected and will be affected by the bad weather that has covered western Greece and especially in Zakynthos and has already descended since 10 am on Attica where rains and storms are already occurring while it also hailed.

For Athens, meteorologists point out that the rains and storms will be intense and long in duration, conditions that can cause flooding.

“Heavy rains and storms will occur initially in the Ionian Islands and the western mainland, which will locally be accompanied by increased lightning and hail. Local rainfall will occur in the rest of the country. The strong phenomena will progressively move further east and will affect the entire country. The areas that will be affected include both the prefecture of Attica and the city of Athens, as well as the prefecture and the city of Thessaloniki,” meteo.gr said in its weather forecast today, Thursday (26/1).

For the moment the biggest problems are recorded in Zakynthos where rain is continuously falling for more than 24 hours. In the early hours, 50 Roma were at risk in a camp near the airport that was flooded as they had to be evacuated with bulldozers in order to then be transferred to a boarding school.

Until this time, the provincial road Zakynthos – Kalamaki is closed, while there were falls of rocks and heavy materials on the provincial road Zakynthos – Vassilikos at Xirokastelo.
