Apart from being named one of the top 10 islands in Greece by the prestigious Travellers Choice awards, based on the reviews it has received on TripAdvisor travel site, Lefkada also boasts of having 7 of the most beautiful and clean beaches in the country. These beaches have been recently awarded Blue Flags for 2014.

The Blue Flag is a certification by FEE that a beach meets its stringent standards for water quality, safety, provision of services and environmental management criteria.

According to an announcement by the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature, Greece once again ranked second on the Blue Flag beach list for 2014. Seven of these awarded beaches are found in Lefkada, the beautiful island in the Ionian sea that is related to several myths linking it to the Goddess of Love Aphrodite and to Odysseus.
