Bad Weather Daniel: The Hellenic Army is mobilizing everything available (photos)

All military air assets on standby, but no permission to fly can be issued yet - Armed Forces vehicles are heading to the wider Volos area

Newsroom September 7 01:47

The Hellenic Army is operating in the areas affected by the bad weather “Daniel”. In Volos, Trikala and Karditsa, mainly they help, providing means and personnel, as well as accommodation for the citizens.

At the same time, all the “XENOKRATIS” emergency operational units maintain a 2-hour readiness.

According to the latest information, as well as the visual material of protothema.gr, it seems that the army has mobilized boats to rescue citizens, Hummer vehicles, but also amphibious armed vehicles.

Aerial assets are having difficulty reaching the flooded areas due to the lightnings caused by the storm.

Although all the means are immediately available for these two and a half days when these extreme weather conditions prevail, it is impossible for them to fly until the relevant permission is issued.

The Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, was briefed by the head of the Hellenic Greek Army, Gen. Konstantinos Floros, about the operations of the Armed Forces to deal with the effects of the bad weather.

As Mr. Dendias informed on X (formerly Twitter), the army has already deployed personnel and means and has provided a place to “accommodate citizens at the facilities of the 32nd Marine Brigade”.
