YouTube demonetises Russel Brand after reports of alleged sexual misconduct in the past

Brand posted a video on YouTube strongly refuting the allegations, dubbing them a “coordinated attack.”

Newsroom September 19 07:52

YouTube has blocked Russell Brand from receiving revenue from his videos posted to his channel. The decision to demonetize the British actor’s account comes just days after several reports that the British comedian was involved in sexual assault allegations emerged.

A week ago a joint investigation from The Times of London, The Sunday Times, and Channel 4’s Dispatches revealed that four women accused Brand of sexual assault and abuse. Brand posted a video on YouTube strongly refuting the allegations, dubbing them a “coordinated attack.”

Brand has become famous for his career as an actor and comedian, but he has also amassed a huge following on YouTube, with over 62 million subscribers. Many of his videos over the past year focus on controversial issues, including the COVID-19 vaccines and the Russia-Ukraine war.

Once YouTube demonetizes a channel, the videos posted on an account will no longer show ads, preventing the content creator from earning money.
