SYRIZA torn in half after hard decision of new president Kasselakis

SYRIZA now seems like two parties in one

Newsroom October 24 12:00

The new president of SYRIZA Stefanos Kasselakis’ decision to show the kick out of the party four high ranking members is causing rapid developments on the internal party front.

After 25 days in the leadership of the party and having given “plenty of time” according to those well aware of the internal party balances, Mr. Kasselakis is said to be “determined” to continue the reconstruction of SYRIZA without those who refuse the “ultimatum” on unity, thus speeding up developments.

In this context, on the occasion of yesterday’s televised statements by Panos Skourletis, Dimitris Vitsa and Nikos Fili, shortly before midnight yesterday the new president of SYRIZA proceeded to delete the three historical executives through with a post on his social media profiles, saying that “the Vitsas, Skourletis, Filis who appeared in the last few days on television to oppose their own party, chose to place themselves outside SYRIZA”.

However, singling out the former Secretary of SYRIZA, Dimitris Vitsas, Mr. Kasselakis said that “I am particularly sorry for Mr. Vitsas, with whom I had cultivated a good personal relationship and whom I value. But the river does not turn back. I have received a clear order from the members of SYRIZA”.

After all, Dimitris Vitsas is a key person in the recent history of SYRIZA, as he contributed to the change and the political hegemony of Alexis Tsipras in the field, being, as he said, from the age of 17 on the Left.

However, having put the party on standby since early yesterday afternoon, Kasselakis was preparing his response from the USA to what the three executives commented in their interviews, finally deciding to break ties with the four executives that have a long presence in the heart of the Greek Left.
