Mitsotakis on Bloomberg: I have not spoken to Sunak, I have left the incident behind (video)

"We want to maintain a good relationship with the United Kingdom", the Prime Minister said

Newsroom December 1 01:19

The Greek Prime Minister expressed his intention in an interview with Bloomberg to maintain good relations with Britain despite the “unfair” of his British counterpart Rishi Sunak’s cancellation of their planned meeting last Monday. In the interview he stated saying that “I have put this incident behind me” adding that he has not talk to Mr. Sunak after the incident.

“In the spirit of good relations between the two countries I have little to add to this matter, nor do I wish to get involved in internal British political matters. We have said everything we have to say and I have nothing to add. I want to put this incident behind me, but it takes two to tango. We haven’t spoken”.

The Prime Minister was also asked about the summit on climate change being held in Dubai, with Mr. Mitsotakis asking “everyone to be more ambitious in its goals. We have reduced emissions by 43% since 2005, the fastest country emissions reduction in Europe”.

“We must have long-term and medium-term goals. Reducing the carbon footprint of our energy mix is the obvious goal to improve RES participation on the energy mix. We are in the Top-10 producers. But we also need investments in the network”, he added.

Although Kyriakos Mitsotakis reminded that “we are committed to the ‘Fit for 55 agenda'”, he nevertheless noted that “at the same time we must listen to the citizens and accept that we must not pass the burden on to those who are the least privileged. We must use the fruits of growth to support the most vulnerable households and ensure that many citizens can benefit from the green transition”.

“We have a strong mandate for growth policy and growth above the Eurozone average. These are all good omens. You can be a center-right party with a large social majority as long as you support the citizens”, added the Greek Prime Minister.

Regarding the geopolitical role of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized that “we need natural gas, but we need to expand the production base of ‘green’ technologies. We want to be exporters of green energy in the long term. In the short term, we want to cover the needs of our neighboring countries, providing the access to natural gas and we already meet Bulgaria’s needs, we export to Moldova. We want to be energy security providers for many European countries”.
