Farmers are currently gathered at the Sindos Conference Centre, representing various regions nationwide, mainly in Macedonia and Thessaly, in preparation for their upcoming meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis scheduled for next Tuesday at noon.

They emphasize the need for open dialogue with the government regarding their demands, expecting concrete solutions to address their concerns.

Rizos Maroudas, President of the Union Federation of Agricultural Unions of Larissa, underscores the importance of reducing production costs to ensure farmers’ livelihoods and sustainability.

The meeting aims to discuss the progress of ongoing mobilizations and strategize for future actions, including the establishment of new blockades ahead of the meeting with the Prime Minister.

Additionally, members of the committee who will represent farmers at the forthcoming negotiation with Kyriakos Mitsotakis will be selected.

Communication officer of the Derveni blockade, Kostas Hatziparadisis, highlights the sector’s pressing issues that demand immediate attention, emphasizing that addressing fundamental demands, such as production costs and energy, is essential for constructive dialogue.

Should their demands remain unmet, farmers express readiness to continue their mobilization efforts.

The farmers’ memorandum to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis outlines various demands, including tax exemptions for agricultural oil, electricity price caps, state subsidies for agricultural supplies, opposition to the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), and compensation for crop losses not covered by ELGA.

They also call for full compensation for damages, measures to prevent the nationalization of agricultural products, fair pricing to cover production costs, and infrastructure development for flood protection.
