Clashes in the protest march for Tempi in Athens & Thessaloniki – Stones & Molotov bombs (videos)

More than 20.000 people participated in Athens alone

Newsroom February 28 02:35

Clashes occurred shortly after two in the afternoon at Syntagma Square as part of the 24-hour strike.

It is reminded that the center of Athens is closed due to the three gatherings and marches taking place today as part of the 24-hour strike, marking one year since the tragedy with 57 fatalities in Tempi.

According to information, there are 15,000 demonstrators at Propylaea heading towards the offices of Hellenic Train, 2,000 demonstrators in Hauhtea, and 3,500 in Klauthmonos Square.

According to the same information, police arrested four people from the streets of Academias and Voukourestiou as backpacks containing Molotov cocktail bombs were found.

The memorial march for the first anniversary of the national railway tragedy 2023 has been underway in Thessaloniki since early morning as well.

Shortly before 13:30, the march took a violent turn as it reached Monastiriou Street outside the OSE Thessaloniki, where clashes between demonstrators and the police unfolded.

Specifically, there were many Molotov cocktail incendiary bombs and stones thrown by individuals with hoods, while anti-riot police responded with the use of flash-bang and tear gas grenades.

Later on, the unrest continued on Egnatia Street, where the same individuals set bins on fire and set up barricades.
