Greek Community London: Live Conversation “Greek Women Authors Today”

The Greek Library of London invites you on Saturday 16th of March to a Live Conversation entitled "Greek Women Creators Today

On Saturday 16 March 2024 at 19:00-20:30, the bibliophile audience of London will have the opportunity to enjoy a different Live Conversation entitled ”Greek Women Authors Today”.

The guests this time are three special women from the field of letters and arts of our country: the Director of Letters and Arts of the Ministry of Culture, Sissy Papathanasiou and the poets Myrsini Gana and Lena Kallergi.

Gender issues, fields of inspiration, the role of poetry in modern times, the actions of the Ministry of Culture for the promotion of Greek literature and children’s and teenage literature within and outside the borders, as well as the State Literature Awards announced a few days ago will be the main topics of discussion in this Live Conversation.

The discussion will be moderated by Evdokia Michalopoulou and Georgia Karantona.

A Drinks Reception will follow

Sissy Papathanasiou is the Director of Arts and Letters, Ministry of Culture and Arts and Artistic Director of the Analog International Festival.

Myrsini Ghana studied English Literature and works as a translator. For her first poetry collection “The Beyond Peres” she was awarded the Reader’s Poetry Emerging Award 2018 and the Public Prize 2018

Lena Kallergi studied biology in Patras, linguistics (MA, PhD) at Lancaster and translation in Athens. She has published the poetry books ”Gardens in the sand” (Gavriilides, 2010-Maria Polydouris Award) and ”Periscope a ship” (Gavriilides, 2016-Poets’ Circle Award).

Evdokia Michalopoulou holds a PhD in English literature and criticism, and works as Head of Classics at Eltham College.

Georgia Karantona is a PhD candidate in Children’s & Adolescent Literature at the University of Thessaloniki and Director of the Greek Children’s Library of London.
