Roula Pispirigou: Life sentence for the manslaughter of Tzortzina

The 35-year-old was unanimously found guilty of premeditated manslaughter in a calm mental state. Pispirigou heard the verdict without reacting

Newsroom March 29 02:26

Roula Pispirigou has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the attempted manslaughter and manslaughter of her daughter Georgina. The decision was unanimous.

Earlier, the Athens Mixed Jury Court announced her unanimous guilty verdict, following a marathon trial that lasted about 16 months. Additionally, the court found her guilty of attempted manslaughter against her child on April 11, 2021.

Specifically, the court accepted the proposal made by the prosecutor, Evaggelia Spyridonidou, during the hearing on January 25, requesting Pispirigou’s guilt for both felonies.

It is recalled that according to the attempted manslaughter charge, the 35-year-old mother from Patras attempted to take her firstborn daughter’s life for the first time at the Karamandanio Hospital in Patras, resulting in the child becoming quadriplegic.

Subsequently, based on the indictment accepted by the court, the accused took her child’s life at the “Panagiotis and Aglaia Kyriakou” Children’s Hospital by administering a large dose of ketamine.

The court unanimously rejected the pending requests of the defendant (e.g., submission of a resuscitation bag from the ICU Children’s Department, further genetic testing).

Finally, the court unanimously decided not to accept requests from Roula Pispirigou’s defense for the transmission of the trial proceedings to the prosecution, so that Manos Daskalakis and some of the doctor witnesses could be prosecuted for false testimony. A similar proposal had been made earlier by the prosecuting attorney. After the verdict was announced, the presiding judge told the defendant, “You have the right to appeal,” to which Pispirigou responded, “I have already appealed.”
