New Democracy: The base is heating up on the road to the European elections – Panagiotopoulos is the “general” of the electoral campaign

The reason why the MP from Kavala was chosen as the replacement for Yiannis Bratakou

Newsroom April 12 12:51

Kyriakos Mitsotakis may have been in Poland since last night, where today he will meet with his counterpart Donald Tusk. Meanwhile, electoral preparations within New Democracy’s team in Athens are in full swing. The Prime Minister himself, as he indicated in an interview with ANT1, has begun to adopt the logic of tough dilemmas, directly positioning Stefanos Kasselakis and Kyriakos Velopoulos against each other, identifying them with the “duet” of Tsipras and Kammenos.

As reported by protothema.gr a few days ago, the Prime Minister’s office at Maximos Mansion believes that they need someone to serve as a adversary, even if the opposition’s numbers are disproportionately lower to those of the government, despite the latter’s decline in polls. Hence, the Prime Minister will frequently launch verbal attacks against the President of SYRIZA and the leader of Greek Solution, whose party is experiencing significant growth trends and is now positioned fourth, above the Communist Party and behind PASOK.

The New Strategist

Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s return tonight will usher in a new cycle of electoral deliberations at Maximos Mansion, as the ND’s European election ballot must be announced at the Athens Concert Hall this afternoon. Ten positions are still pending, six for men and four for women. Georgios Aivatidis, who was announced yesterday, became the 32nd member of the blue “European ballot”, while there are growing speculations about the journalist Eleonora Meleti, whose morning show on Mega TV ends on May 1. However, with today’s data, a candidacy of Freddy Beleris has significantly stalled, despite Mitsotakis having given it considerable thought, weighing the pros and cons.

Saturday, however, is expected to be a day of decisions for the government cabinet, as loose ends need to be tied up, and ND officially enters campaign mode. According to protothema.gr’s information, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, former Minister of Defense and MP for Kavala, has been “locked” in for the head of ND’s electoral campaign, replacing the resigned Yiannis Bratakou. Panagiotopoulos is experienced, holds special weight due to his previous tenure at the Hellenic Pentagon, is an MP for the northern Greece region, and knows how to address the public with “patriotic concerns”. According to the same sources, another name that was discussed was that of Eurydice Stylinidis, MP for Rhodope, with announcements expected even today.
