The 2nd Sacred Music Festival: Returns with 50 concerts at various venues in Athens

A rich program - Free admission to the public

Newsroom April 15 09:45

More than 50 concerts in 13 different venues in Athens, with the participation of 500 artists will present in this year’s program of the 2nd 2nd Sacred Music Festival organised by the Ministry of Culture, the National Opera and Eurolife FFH. It will take place for a total of three days, from Palm Sunday to Holy Tuesday with free admission to the public.

From the Presidential Palace Garden and the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral to Dionysiou Areopagitou Street, the Anglican and Evangelical Church, the Catholic Cathedral, the Fethiye Mosque, and the Old Stock Exchange, to the Acropolis Museums, the Museum of Modern Greek Culture, and the Goulandris Museum, the entire city will be filled with sacred melodies that highlight the deep connection between music and religious worship.

Hundreds of artists, musicians, choirs, cantors, composers, actors, and conductors will participate in the concerts and events, covering a wide musical spectrum, from classical music to folk traditions from around the world. Among them, notable highlights include the return after 22 years to the National Opera House of the internationally acclaimed conductor and pianist Konstantinos Karydis, the presentation of a new musical work by Lena Platonos , from the opera “Queen Joanna” by George Vassilandonakis, to the “dialogue” to Mozart’s classical “Requiem” over to the Epirotic lament, to “The last act is always blood-stained, but also majestic!”

“These type of events, play an important role: they give meaning to our everyday life, all the precious emotions that everyone feels as Easter approaches and especially in the solemnity of Holy Week. Many will be those who, somewhere on the street, suddenly will hear the music and become a part of the music that will be heard throughout the historic center of Athens,” noted Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni during today’s presentation of the program held at the Museum of Modern Greek Culture.
