US media: Deterioration of Charles’s health & preparations for the royal funeral – “He is really very ill”

The health condition of the 75-year-old monarch is gradually deteriorating, according to an US publication - The "Operation Bridge of Menai" is being updated regularly

Newsroom April 26 12:58

The news about King Charles is not good, as according to foreign media, his health condition is gradually worsening, leading officials at Buckingham Palace to maintain a regularly updated plan for his impending funeral – preparations for which began the day after Queen Elizabeth’s funeral.

Specifically, sources reported to the American Daily Beast that the health condition of the 75-year-old monarch is “not good.”

King Charles has been staying out of the public eye for a long time, especially after announcing in February that he is battling cancer.

He chooses not to make public appearances, apparently to conceal the seriousness of his health condition.

“Of course, he is determined to beat it (cancer), and everyone is rallying around him. Everyone remains optimistic, but he’s really very sick. More than they let on,” a source described as an old friend of the royal family told the Daily Beast.

It’s worth noting that King Charles never disclosed what type of cancer he has, but he admitted that it was not prostate cancer, which is one of the most treatable forms of the disease.

The Palace has remained tight-lipped about the 75-year-old monarch’s health status. However, experts and political commentators who have spoken publicly report that the king is “responding very well” to treatment.

At the same time, as reported by the American network, King Charles’s aides regularly review copies of a several-hundred-page document outlining plans for his royal funeral, dubbed “Operation Menai Bridge.”

“The plans have been ‘dusted off’ and are actively being updated. It’s to be expected given that the king has been diagnosed with cancer,” the source told the Daily Beast.

The extremely detailed documents were created the day after Queen Elizabeth’s funeral on September 8, 2022. British officials confirmed to the Daily Beast that “Operation Menai Bridge” is regularly updated but stressed that it is a routine process and that “it would be unreasonable to draw any conclusions” from this fact.

All members of the royal family have updated plans for their funerals, categorized with codes based on bridges. For example, the plan for Queen Elizabeth’s funeral was named “Operation London Bridge.”

The funeral plan for King Charles takes its name from the suspension bridge that connects the island of Anglesey with mainland Wales.

“Of course, they are examining every aspect of Operation Menai Bridge. The Queen’s funeral went very well and set a high standard. It’s not something emotional. It’s a job that is taken very seriously,” said a senior official involved in the planning of royal funerals.
