Iran Mourns President Ebrahim Raisi in Massive Funeral Procession

Hundreds of thousands of Iranians took to the streets of Tehran early this morning to bid farewell to President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash on Sunday along with Foreign Minister Hossein Abtolakhian and six others. The mourners, carrying portraits of Raisi and waving Iranian flags, gathered around Tehran University, shouted slogans against the United States.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei led the funeral procession, offering prayers for Raisi and the other victims, whose coffins were draped in the Iranian flag. Acting interim president Mohammad Mohbar stood by, visibly emotional.

The crowd then carried the coffins on their shoulders, shouting “Death to the Americans,” before loading them onto a trailer for a procession through central Tehran to Azadi Square, a place where Raisi often addressed the nation.
