Yemen: Missile hit reported by merchant ship – No reports of injuries

The captain of the merchant ship had reported that the missile hit the water near the port side of the ship

Newsroom May 23 02:27

A merchant ship off the coast of Yemen reported a missile strike in waters nearby, the British Maritime Safety Agency said today, adding that the ship and all crew members are safe and proceeding to the next port of call.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said it received a report of an incident 98 nautical miles south of the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah. The master of the merchant ship had reported that the missile hit the water near the port side of the ship.

The British marine insurance company Ambrey said it had received a report that a merchant ship approached 68 nautical miles southwest of Hodeidah and suffered what it described as a “missile attack”. “No injuries or damage have been reported,” Ambrey said.

Ambrey also sent another warning after a merchant ship reported a missile impact at sea about 33 nautical miles south of Moha, Yemen.

“The missile reportedly hit the water 0.2 nautical miles to the stern of the ship. Two and a half hours ago another merchant ship reported a ‘missile attack’ west of Moha,” Ambrey added.

The two ships were sailing within 2-5 nautical miles of each other during the incidents, he said.
