A tragic accident was narrowly avoided in Platanitis, Nafpaktia, as a firefighting aircraft hit a tree while releasing water.

The situation in the area is quite difficult and an evacuation of settlements has been requested, via the 112 emergency warning number.

According to the mayor of Nafpaktia, the fire has been kept out of homes for now, but has burned several crops.
