The “European Summer” Trend: TikTok’s Latest Obsession and Its Connection to Greece

Embracing linen ensembles, summer knits, and cool fabrics in the latest fashion craze

Newsroom July 5 06:32

Starting from across the Atlantic, the European Summer trend on TikTok has garnered millions of views. This Mediterranean dream combines holidays with style, aiding tourists headed to Europe in organizing their suitcases while showcasing the beauty of European countries with their crystal-clear beaches and warm weather.

Months ago, American TikTok users began contributing to this aesthetic, filling it with elevated summer outfits, sunset photos by the sea, and plenty of spritz glasses. Although Europe is just one part of this trend and the title “European Summer” might initially seem misleading, a closer look at the TikTok accounts dedicated to this trend—and their counterparts on Instagram—reveals that the goal is to idealize the Mediterranean summer and help people build a stylish summer wardrobe that goes beyond “I wore something casual because it’s hot.”

This trend draws inspiration from the warm weather and Mediterranean fashion, which naturally includes many elements from the aesthetics of the Greek islands. Social media users looking for tips on how to dress when visiting the Mediterranean are discovering vibrant photos and classic summer outfits like capri pants, linen dresses, knit tops, sandals, and straw bags. These versatile pieces can be worn from morning to night, adding a special character to any holiday.

For now, short denim shorts and heavy fabrics stay in the drawer, as do overly formal clothes. Instead, the focus is on light, breathable pieces suitable for the hot sun.

Even if our wardrobes already align with these trends, there’s always room to evolve and create beautiful images to share on social media, with or without hashtags.

Here are some photos from the trend to inspire us:
