The moment Kate Middleton hands the trophy to Carlos Alcaraz

The Spaniard secured his second title by defeating Novak Djokovic

Newsroom July 15 11:19

Kate Middleton upheld the royal tradition at Wimbledon by presenting the trophies to the tournament participants.

The Princess of Wales entered Centre Court on July 14 after the men’s singles final between Carlos Alcaraz from Spain and Novak Djokovic from Serbia, awarding the prizes to the athletes as the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. She has held this position since 2016, assigned to her by the late Queen Elizabeth.

Alcaraz defeated Djokovic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4) in the Wimbledon final on Sunday, July 14. The Princess of Wales also presented the trophies at last year’s men’s final, where Alcaraz again faced Djokovic and emerged victorious.

As both players received their trophies, they gave a slight bow to Kate. She warmly shook their hands, congratulated them on their victories, and exchanged a few words as she handed them their awards.

For her appearance on the court, she chose a purple dress from the British brand Safiyaa, featuring a twist of fabric at the bodice and an A-line skirt. The Princess of Wales paired it with a small brown bag with gold details and added sparkle to her look with gold cuff bracelets and matching earrings.

After weeks of speculation, Kensington Palace confirmed on July 13 that Kate would attend the tennis tournament and participate in the trophy presentations amid her treatment for cancer.
