Meteorologists are warning of a new rise in temperatures with the mercury this week hitting the 40s again.

According to a post by Thodoros Kolydas, the breaths of coolness were a break gone by. The drop in temperature in Athens was temporary, as the mercury, in the next few days, will be at a high for the season and in particular about 5 degrees Celsius higher.

According to the director of EMY, it is a general characteristic of the Balkans to maintain temperatures 3 to 5 degrees Celsius above normal levels.

Very high fire danger in 3 regions

According to the Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr), for today, Monday 29 July 2024, a very high fire risk (risk category 4) is predicted for the following areas:

-Region of Attica
-Region of Central Greece (Boeotia, Evia, Fthiotida)
-Region of Peloponnese (PE Corinthia, PE Argolida)

At 38.3 °C maximum temperature on Sunday

According to the network of automatic weather stations of the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr, the maximum temperature on Sunday 28/07 was recorded in Skala in Messinia (38.3 °C), followed by Koboti in Arta (38.2 °C) and Gavalou in Etoloakarnania (38.2 °C).

The map in the image below shows the distribution of maximum temperatures in the country. As can be seen from the other information presented in this figure, the temperature exceeded 35 °C at 139 of the 510 currently active stations (~27%), while 37 °C was exceeded at only 32 stations (~6%).

Good, warm weather is expected across the country with a few sparse clouds.

The temperature will range in Western Macedonia from 15 to 34-35 degrees Celsius, in the rest of northern Greece from 18 to 36-38 degrees Celsius, in Thessaly from 18 to 37-39 degrees Celsius, in Epirus from 20 to 37 degrees Celsius, in the rest of the mainland from 24 to 38-39 and locally 40 degrees Celsius, in the Ionian Islands from 21 to 35 degrees Celsius, in the Aegean islands and in Crete from 22 to 33-35 degrees Celsius, while in the East Aegean islands the maximum temperatures will reach 37-38 degrees Celsius locally.

In the eastern part of Greece, in the south-eastern part of Greece, the temperatures will be in the region of 37-37 degrees.

Northern winds with intensities of 5-6 Beaufort will blow in the Aegean Sea, while northwest winds with intensities of up to 4 Beaufort will blow in the Ionian Sea.
