Weather: 8 out of 10 days in 2024 in Greece were warmer than average

Of the 213 days, 173 recorded positive temperature departures -The year 2024 will probably be the warmest year for Greece, immediately after 2023

Above climate levels, temperature in Greece has been above climate levels on 80% of days for 2024 so far.

According to the meteorological data analysed by the meteo.gr / EAA scientific team, the average maximum temperature in Greece from the beginning of the year 2024 until 31 July 2024 was above the average value of the period 1991-2020 on 80% of the days. More specifically, on 173 of the 213 days of the year (up to 31/07) days positive deviations were recorded.

Figure 1 shows the average daily maximum temperature for 2024 in Greece up to 31 July 2024.

Some important data from the graph:

173 out of 213 days of the year (up to 31/07) days of the year so far have recorded positive deviations.
The temperature even in winter was at very high levels.
In April 2024, record high temperatures were recorded in Greece.
The two-month period June – July 2024 with an average maximum temperature of 31°C is the warmest in the history of records in Greece, with a large difference from the second (2012).
The summer of 2024 (pending the August records) is heading towards the warmest on record in Greece.
The year 2024 will likely be the warmest year for Greece, immediately following 2023.
A newer announcement on August temperatures will be made in early September.
