SYRIZA: Request for Information Regarding Aerial Means Used in the Attica Fire

"The number of aerial means reported by the Fire Brigade Chief is being disputed," according to a related post by Stefanos Kasselakis

Newsroom August 13 11:06

SYRIZA has submitted an official request for information regarding the aerial means that were flying yesterday during the devastating fire in Attica.

“The Chief of the Fire Brigade stated, among other things, that a total of 32 firefighting aircraft have been operating since the start of the fire. However, both from media reports and from residents’ testimonies, the reported number of operating aerial means is being disputed,” said the president of SYRIZA in his post.

Stefanos Kasselakis’ post

“During my visit to the Civil Protection Coordination Center, I personally saw only three aircraft operating in the wider Attica area. Therefore, SYRIZA, through our Shadow Minister Symeon Kedikoglou, has made the following official request. The Greek people have the right to know the truth.”

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION

To: Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Mr. V. Kikilias

Dear Minister,

Following our visit on August 12, 2024, to the Operations Center of the Ministry, where we were briefed on the devastating fires affecting Attica, the Chief of the Fire Brigade mentioned, among other things, that a total of 32 firefighting aircraft have been operating since the fire started.

However, both from media reports and residents’ testimonies, the reported number of operating aerial means is being disputed.

To ensure full transparency for the Greek people, who deserve to know the truth, I, as the responsible Shadow Minister of SYRIZA-PS, on behalf of President St. Kasselakis, am forwarding the request from the Main Opposition, to be provided with the material from the relevant recording system, as well as the file with the related flight permits, from the start of the fire in Attica until 9:30 PM, when aerial operations ceased due to darkness.

We intend to request the information through parliamentary channels as well, but since this is a more time-consuming process, we are asking for immediate answers that the public has a right to know.

Thank you, and I look forward to your response.
