The minors were released - The remaining 11 will be brought to the prosecutor after 3pm for obstructing traffic

Newsroom August 14 09:56

The 11 passengers, were arrested and detained at the Tinou port authority after the heated incident that preceded yesterday’s incident between them on the passenger ferry “Super Express” that was sailing to Rafina.

According to the Coast Guard, a total of 14 passengers on the ship were brought to the port authority, 11 of whom were Roma. Three of the arrested were minors and were released.

The arrested persons were charged with violating Article 292 of the Criminal Code, which concerns obstruction of public transport.

The intense disagreement on the boat from Tinos to Rafina that eventually resulted in 14 arrests is captured in two videos released on social media.

According to reports, this is the moment of the scuffle that forced the captain of the Golden Star Ferries Super Express with 717 passengers who had just untied boats from Tinos bound for Rafina to return to the port of Tinos. The tension started when one of the passengers asked a group of Roma to be quiet, and according to reports, one of the people involved allegedly pulled out a gun.

It all started shortly after the ship left Tinos when the captain was informed that a wild fistfight had broken out and, there were witnesses that a gun was also drawn.

The captain immediately returned the boat to the port of Tinos, where 6 Roma were arrested. According to reports, they attacked a passenger when he was observing them to be quiet. The remaining 8 were arrested on board, on the return to Rafina.

An initial search found a fake gun, and there was testimony from a passenger that there was another gun. According to protothema.gr, passengers asked the Coast Guard to provide an escort on the route to Rafina as there is a feeling of insecurity. Shortly after 20.00, the ship departed from Tinos, while two coastguardsmen were on board.
