In which beaches of Volos it is recommended to avoid swimming because of dead fish

The recommendation to avoid bathing will remain in force until the presence of dead fish are eliminated in order to protect the health of bathers

Newsroom August 30 12:04

The General Directorate of Public Health Social Care of the Thessaly Region, with a document sent to the Municipality of Volos, recommends avoiding swimming in the following bathing beaches:

– Plakes
– Anavros
– Xenia
– Pefkakia-Municipal coast of Volos (Alykes beach)
– Alykes
– Amphannon
– Amaryllis

The recommendation to avoid swimming will be in force until the elimination of the stench and the presence of dead fish, in order to protect the health of bathers and to ensure public health.

The Municipality of Volos, Vice Mayoralty of Tourism, in cooperation with the Port Authority and in compliance with the relevant legislation, maintains lifeguards on the busy beaches, included in those mentioned above, in order to inform residents and visitors about the validity of the above recommendation to avoid bathing.

Also, Blue Flags remain suspended on seven of the 11 beaches in the Volos Municipality until the phenomenon is controlled and the beaches meet the award criteria. The suspension was made in response to an update from the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature. The sole objective is always the protection of bathers and the reputation of the destination in relation to the program itself.

The following beaches retain the Blue Flag as the condition of the beaches meets the award criteria.

– Platanidia
– Carnagio
– Gold Coast
– Nea Anchialos

The Tourism Department points out that its officials visit each awarded beach and constantly monitor the phenomenon and its development. “All beaches are checked daily and the waving of the Blue Flags on the beaches of Volos is not a formal participation in the program, but a substantial and dynamically evolving process in which each flag is an honest indicator of the quality of the beaches and a responsible way of communicating with residents and visitors. We visit each coast, monitor the progress and the Blue Flag will be flown again, proudly, as soon as conditions are right and the program criteria are met,” the statement stressed.
