Halkidiki: The amusement park ride where the 19-year-old was killed was pieced together from stapled parts

The ride appears to have been uncertified - The fatal injury was allegedly caused by the breakage of the metal base of the cabin - The investigation is expanding into three cases

Newsroom August 31 05:25

Individual construction from stapled machines and without any certification seems to have been the fatal ride in the amusement park in Halkidiki where Giannis was killed, according to a qualified technician who checked the machine after the 19-year-old’s father’s request was approved.

As ERT reports, the 19-year-old’s death appears to have been avoidable, based on what is known so far.

The 19-year-old’s father asked for an examination by a specialist at a private company that certifies recreational equipment, and the request was approved by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Appeals of Thessaloniki.

Also, according to the expert witness of the Chalkidiki Prosecutor’s Office, the fatal injury of the 19-year-old was due to the breaking of the metal base of the ride. The breakage occurred because the machine had corroded. This implies that the accident occurred because of the aging and corrosion it had undergone, not because of the speed, which played a role in the child falling at high speed to the ground and losing his life.

The expert appointed by the Prosecutor’s Office of Chalkidiki, in his conclusions also states that it is a case of a self-made ride with stapled parts, which he says means that those who built the machine could have prevented any accident. They knew that the machine would break down because they were building it.

In three parallel cases the prosecution’s investigation

The prosecution investigation is expanding to include three parallel cases. One is the death of the child and the circumstances under which it occurred. The second case is the operating status of the amusement park for this season, and the third case is that it is being investigated for all of the past, for all of the previous seasons, how it was licensed, and whether it had certifications and related documents.

Public officials from the City and other agencies may be called to testify and, of course, engineers, experts, and anyone who knows anything about the case.
