Thessaloniki: 61-year-old contractor who was found in elevator shaft in Thermi has died

The 61-year-old contractor, who was found in an elevator shaft at a newly constructed building in the Thermi area last Monday, has passed away

The unfortunate man had been hospitalized at AHEPA Hospital in Thessaloniki.

According to information from protothema.gr, the police arrived at the intersection of Th. Litsa and Archimedes streets on Monday, September 2, following a call to the Emergency Response Center by the 61-year-old himself. He informed the officers that unknown assailants had violently stolen his money and then threw him into the elevator shaft.

Minutes later, the police arrived and found the victim injured in the basement of the shaft. The Fire Department had to assist in retrieving the 61-year-old, who was seriously injured and transported by ambulance to the hospital.

During the investigation at the scene and the inspection of the shaft, two bags were found. One contained a wallet with €1,800, cards, a mobile phone, and personal items belonging to the victim. The second bag contained a counterfeit bill detection device using blacklight and empty banknote wrappers. Similar wrappers were found in the basement area. Additionally, in the courtyard of the maisonette, the victim’s company’s truck was found locked. The victim was involved in building construction work.

The 61-year-old had been recovered unconscious.
