J.K. Rowling highlighted the real mental health risks tied to the rhetoric of radical gender ideology, arguing that it worsens mental health rather than addressing it. She cited an example of rhetoric suggesting people would “rather die” than conform to traditional gender roles, criticizing this approach as damaging to those with gender dysphoria.

Rowling argued that this rhetoric fosters an unhealthy dependence on external validation, leading to fragile mental states. She warned that expecting universal affirmation of one’s identity is a recipe for insecurity and unhappiness, as rejection or disagreement would be perceived as an attack on one’s existence. “Rhetoric like this flies in the face of everything we know about mitigating suicide risk.”

She concluded by condemning the narrative that trans-identifying youth are at high risk of suicide if not medically affirmed, calling it a harmful myth. Rowling emphasized that such extreme language, especially on social media, endangers vulnerable individuals by promoting irreversible medical interventions as the only solution.
