How Powerful is a Pager Bomb Explosion – Watch a Demolition Expert’s Demonstration

CNN requested an expert to demonstrate the kind of damage an explosive-laden communication device could inflict on the human body

Newsroom September 23 09:16

In the aftermath of deadly attacks using communication devices rigged with explosives in Lebanon, CNN asked a demolition expert to show the potential harm a pager or walkie-talkie bomb could cause to the human body.

It is worth noting that similar devices have caused thousands of injuries and dozens of deaths in coordinated attacks targeting Hezbollah members in the Middle Eastern country, with Israel having quietly acknowledged its role in the attacks.

In the televised report by CNN, expert Ryan Morris explains that even a small amount of explosive material inside a pager can inflict serious injury on the human body, including permanent vision damage or even fatal bleeding after detonation.

The video first shows the explosion of a pager bomb on a human dummy, followed by a demonstration of a more powerful blast from an explosive-rigged walkie-talkie.

As expected, the second explosion is much stronger and more destructive, as the larger communication device has more space to house explosives.

The risk of a deadly explosion is heightened by the fact that users typically hold these devices close to their faces, the CNN reporter emphasizes.
