Two Polls, Two Realities: Battle for PASOK Leadership Takes Shape

Diverging Poll Results Show Tight Race in PASOK Leadership Contest – Androulakis Leads in One, Diamantopoulou in Another

Newsroom October 4 09:19

The upcoming PASOK leadership elections are becoming increasingly unpredictable, with two major polls offering differing perspectives just before the first round of voting. In a survey by Pulse, the contest appears wide open, with differences between the leading candidates within the margin of error. Meanwhile, Metron Analysis gives the edge to Nikos Androulakis and Anna Diamantopoulou, projecting a close second-round showdown.

Pulse Poll: Four-Way Battle for PASOK Leadership

Pulse’s poll, aired on Skai TV, suggests a neck-and-neck race among four major candidates. According to their data, Androulakis holds a narrow 2-point lead over Diamantopoulou, followed by Haris Doukas trailing by 3 points and Pavlos Geroulanos lagging by 6 points. These close margins leave all possibilities open for who will make it to the second round.

Among PASOK supporters, Androulakis appears to have a slight edge, with Doukas emerging as the second favorite. Androulakis also leads among those who voted for PASOK in the European elections, followed again by Diamantopoulou.

Interestingly, the recent debate among the six candidates seems to have had only a marginal impact on voter preferences.

Metron Analysis: Diamantopoulou and Androulakis Set for Runoff

Metron Analysis, in a poll presented on Mega TV, predicts a second-round matchup between Androulakis (27%) and Diamantopoulou (24%), leaving Doukas and Geroulanos with 20% each. The survey also highlights that while Androulakis is expected to win the second round against both Diamantopoulou and Doukas, Geroulanos is the only one projected to surpass him.

SYRIZA Leadership Contest: Kasselakis Losing Ground

On the SYRIZA front, the Metron Analysis poll shows a decline in support for current leader Stefanos Kasselakis among SYRIZA’s European election voters, dropping 10 points to 37%. Despite this, the contest remains fluid as potential candidates for the leadership race have yet to be finalized.

ND Maintains Lead in Vote Estimate

Both Pulse and Metron Analysis indicate continued dominance for New Democracy (ND) in national polls, with ND hovering around 30%, while PASOK sees a slight increase to 15.5%-17.2%. SYRIZA, however, continues to decline, placing third or fourth depending on the poll.

The PASOK leadership race remains uncertain, with the potential for surprises as voters head to the polls. With Androulakis leading one poll and Diamantopoulou showing strength in another, the outcome is anyone’s guess.
