PASOK: One-on-One meeting between Anna Diamantopoulou and Haris Doukas commences

Later, she will engage in a key meeting with Nikos Androulakis in her office

Newsroom October 9 12:46

A meeting is currently taking place between Haris Doukas of PASOK and Anna Diamantopoulou at the former commissioner’s office. Following this, Diamantopoulou is scheduled to meet with Nikos Androulakis in her office at 1:30 PM.

As discussions progress, the anticipated debate is still uncertain. While representatives from both sides have agreed on the format and topics, yesterday’s meeting at Charilaou Trikoupis did not yield a confirmed date for the debate. With limited time remaining, urgency is mounting.

Both parties have, however, acknowledged the importance of organizing a debate among the six candidates vying for PASOK leadership before the first round, in addition to a face-off between Androulakis and Doukas. Despite this, they have yet to agree on a specific date for the debate. Stefania Mourelatou and Vangelis Tsogkas, representing Androulakis, proposed holding the debate on either Thursday or Friday. They also indicated a willingness to adjust the schedule if Friday is selected.

Wednesday has been ruled out as a possible debate day, as Haris Doukas is committed to a Municipal Council meeting, while Nikos Androulakis has a rally planned in Pyrgos Ilia.

Following the meeting, Haris Doukas’s representatives, Andrianna Mangania and Panagiotis Vlachos, emphasized that a debate format has been established, comprising seven thematic sections, modeled after the previous debate among the six PASOK candidates. They stressed the importance of including a section on the rising cost of living, a pressing issue for citizens, and underscored the need to discuss PASOK’s future role.

Doukas’s team reiterated their availability for a debate on any of the proposed days (Thursday, Friday, or Saturday) and are now awaiting a response from Androulakis’s camp. They also expressed concern that a debate scheduled for tomorrow could draw fewer viewers due to a clash with the Greek National Team’s match against England at Wembley for the Nations League.

Androulakis’s representatives acknowledged the Friday suggestion but noted they would consult their organizing team about the feasibility of scheduling the event at a different time in Thessaloniki. However, insiders predict that as time runs short, announcements from PASOK leadership contenders will be forthcoming regarding their willingness to proceed with the debate.
