A new action film focused on climate change is set to start filming today at the marble quarries of Volakas in Drama, Greece. The film features a star-studded cast including Vincent Cassel, Chris Evans, Anya Taylor-Joy, Salma Hayek, and Sam Richardson. Directed by Romain Gavras, with a script co-written by Gavras and Will Arbery, the film is being produced for Netflix.

The scenic quarries in the mountainous region of Drama have been chosen as the ideal backdrop for the production, which has reserved about 200 rooms in the area for the cast and crew. Preparations have been ongoing for days, with over 150 crew members already on site.

Although details about the plot remain scarce, the film’s central theme revolves around climate change and environmental protection. Filming will take place both in the Volakas quarries and on the road leading to the Falakro ski resort. Additional scenes will be shot in a studio in neighboring Bulgaria.

Earlier this year, a casting call in Drama saw local youths selected to participate as extras in the film. The production is expected to wrap up by November 2.

This is the second international production to choose Drama as a filming location. In 2022, a movie titled Tin Soldier was shot in the area, although it has not yet been released due to bureaucratic delays. Filming for that production took place at notable sites such as the Tobacco Institute building, the Angitis Cave, and various locations in the forested municipality of Paranesti.

Local officials are thrilled with the renewed interest in Drama as a filming destination. Thanks to the Short Film Festival, Drama is now on the radar of international productions, boosting its cultural profile and attracting filmmakers to its unique landscapes and warm hospitality.
