At least 158 dead in Spain from floods – “Everyone knows someone who has died”

Anxiety for the Missing - Hundreds of Soldiers in Valencia

Newsroom October 31 07:19

The tragedy in Spain seems to have no end as the death toll from devastating floods has now reached 158. Concerns are mounting for a further dramatic rise in fatalities, with many still missing and unaccounted for.

A local resident told the BBC, “Everyone knows someone who has died,” highlighting the severity of the situation.

Meanwhile, hundreds of soldiers have been deployed to Valencia, one of the hardest-hit areas.

The deadliest floods in modern Spanish history struck the eastern Valencia region following torrential rains on Tuesday and Wednesday, submerging roads and towns in mud-filled waters.

Drone footage captures the extent of the destruction: bridges are flattened, cars swept away and piled up, and roads have turned into rivers of mud.

Spanish authorities have issued a fresh storm warning today for parts of the Valencia region in eastern Spain, as rescue teams continue to search for the missing in what has been the worst flooding in over fifty years.

Nearly a thousand soldiers have been deployed in the region, working alongside firefighters, police, and rescue teams to locate survivors and clear debris from affected areas.
