France: ‘The US will not abandon Ukraine’, says Foreign Minister

On the role of the new US government, Jean-Noel Barrot said that if it abandoned the Ukrainians, it would legitimise all authoritarian regimes and dictators

Newsroom November 21 03:50

During a television interview, France’s Foreign Minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, said he is not among those who believe that US President-elect Donald Trump will abandon Ukraine once he takes office.

He noted, however, that in any case, Europeans will continue to support Ukraine and, regardless of when the moment of peace comes, will strengthen the means for the security of Europe itself.

As for the role of the new US government, the French Foreign Minister said that if it abandoned the Ukrainians, it would be seen as establishing the law of the strongest and in a way, legitimizing all authoritarian regimes and dictators around the world to invade their neighbor with complete impunity.

Finally, Jean-Noel Barrot, referring among other things to the possible risk of nuclear escalation in connection with the Ukraine-Russia war, stressed that it is part of a nuclear rhetoric that Vladimir Putin has been launching for two and a half years to cause concern and is not something completely out of the blue, since he had already announced this change in his doctrine a few weeks ago.
