The inaugural manifesto of the new political entity and the name has been presented at the Cacoyannis Foundation by Stefanos Kasselakis, Kinima Dimokratias (Democratic Movement).

Earlier, former SYRIZA MPs and current independents Kyriaki Malama, Theodora Tzakri, Alexandros Avlonitis, Ralia Christidou and Giota Poulou had arrived at the event.

I was very impressed by the distance between the proclamations of parties and what they did afterwards, said Stefanos Kasselakis, starting his speech, and spoke of a binding agenda, so that citizens know what we believe and what our vision for the country is. We will never circumvent it, it is the document to which we will always return so that we do not forget who we are, he added.

Stefanos Kasselakis is expected to present the main, programmatic axes of his new programmatic proposal, to then put the first signature on the founding declaration of the new party. Subsequently, the founding document is expected to be co-signed by the deputies who have become independent and will be present, as well as all members and friends of the former President of SYRIZA PS. For this reason, Mr. Kasselakis is expected to go after the ceremony to the offices of his new party in Tavros, where those who wish to co-sign the founding declaration of the new political entity will be present. The new party under Stefanos Kasselakis will reportedly be “patriotic”, positioned in the progressive arc, but also non-democratic, promoting the interaction between the top and the grassroots.

However, interest is focused on the political presence at the ceremony for the founding declaration and specifically whether other MPs who may be considering independence or those who have already left SYRIZA PS will be present. This is because absent from today’s event will be, according to information, the MP of Kilkis, Petros Pappas, who disagreed with the practices followed recently by Koumoundourou, but does not intend, however, to join the new party under Stefanos Kasselakis, nor the Parliamentary Group, whenever it is formed. On the contrary, he is reportedly in no hurry to make his political decisions, but appears determined to carry out his parliamentary duties in the coming period, communicating with the citizens.

Apart from the faces, today will also be absent… the logo of the new political entity and the accompanying colour palette, given that only late yesterday evening the vote for the name of the new entity was completed and the final result was delivered into the hands of Stefanos Kasselakis.

According to his staff, the vote for the party name was conducted using a system called RCV (Ranked Choice Voting).

The process

Specifically, voters chose up to three options, with the first option being the one they preferred the most, then the second option they preferred in case the first option didn’t qualify, and so on.

Once the voting was complete, the count was done in the next few seconds. The option that garnered more than 50% of the votes decided the winner each time. Otherwise, name elimination rounds begin. In each round, the name with the fewest votes is eliminated. The votes of the people who had nominated that name as their first choice are automatically transferred to their second choice and if the second choice is also eliminated then to the third choice.

This process continues until a name has more than 50% of the votes. In a maximum of 15 rounds, the final result is obtained, as in the 14th round only two names will be left, and in the 15th round the name with the corresponding percentage of votes will emerge.
